President’s Corner - Dan Moraczewski
When I was a freshman in college the professor in a particular business class stated that our generation would be different in how we treated our careers. Our parents found a stable company and worked their whole career for one company, to provide for their families. But according to this one professor the Boomers would work on their careers until their mid-fifties and then either go back to school or embark on a new career which would provide them with additional meaning in their life, and not be about earning money or trying to get ahead.
For a long time I thought the professor was wrong, that the Boomers were going to fight for their careers until they retired. But it has happened Boomers today are going back to get teaching certificates, doing day trading, working for non-profits, all well away from their careers in corporate life.
My story is similar, but less planned as much of my life. I retired from a 29-year career of sales and marketing management with American Greetings in 2004 and settled in Austin, Texas. I became involved with Petrus as a board member and consultant and served this ministry in that capacity for 3 1/2 years. Then, this past summer when Peter de Keratry decided to accept a position as the Development Director for the Archdiocese of Brisbane, he asked me if I would consider running Petrus for the three years he and his family would be working abroad. I did think back to that professor, and thought he was pretty smart. My path did indeed mimic his prediction.
To date, my experience and contribution to this ministry has primarily been in a business advisory capacity. This new calling is as President of Petrus. There will be a lot to learn, but God must have put me here for a reason.
So as I establish myself in this position at Petrus, I look forward to meeting with all of you, and helping you grow your ministry, while you help me grow mine.
